Jobs and Equal Rights

Filed under: General — leftwinggeek @ 2:52 am

That is correct. I am applying for a job in Virginia and I am also going to apply for some others jobs in other states, including California and New Mexico. And yes, they are political jobs. I seem to switch back and forth between politics and medicine but I am a political junkie to the max and I may get burnt out from time to time but the urge to participate in the political process always comes back.

It’s especially interesting because many are in the fight of their lives, the battle for equal rights. The right to be happy. The right to make decisions with your partner. The right to have children. The right to marry. Yes Mrs. Kern, I am talking about gay rights and you know what, we will win those rights. Just like women did when they won the right to vote. Just like the black Americans did when society was desegregated. Segregationists were on the wrong side of the issue then and Mrs. Kern, you are on the wrong side of the issues now. Along with your friend Mr. Dobson and Focus on the Family. Oh, and the majority of the Republican Party.

You may have won now but when it’s all said and done, you are going to be the loser.

One Reason Oklahoma Should Be Proud

How about those Sooners last night? Whew! I wish the Democrats could crush the Republicans like that.

I Love Oklahoma, I Really Do

Filed under: General — leftwinggeek @ 7:42 pm

If you know me, you know that I criticize Oklahoma quite a bit but only because I want to see this state succeed and I believe our lawmakers do too but it’s not going to happen with the leadership we have now. Instead of moving our state forward, they are going to move backwards.

When the Senate reconvenes in February, I would be very terrified if I were a woman because God knows they are going to pass many anti-choice bills.

I would be terrified if I were a student in the public school system because they will most likely pass a law requiring that creationism be taught in public schools. And our conservative “Democrats” will more than likely go along with them.

I would be terrified if I am an injured worker because they will pass a doctor-friendly tort reform package that gives that injured worker very little chance of receiving compensation. Yes, I agree that frivolous lawsuits need to be stopped but don’t hurt someone else in the process that truly deserves monetary damages.

The gay people in Oklahoma don’t have to worry right now because their rights were taken away in 2004 when the state passed the marriage ban, though I wouldn’t put anything past Sally Kern.

And we wonder why young Oklahomans are choosing elsewhere to work?

I’m Moving!

Filed under: General — leftwinggeek @ 4:47 pm

After watching my fellow Oklahomans vote against their own interests, I have decided to officially move to Texas. Yes, Texas is a red state but I would consider it to be more purple than anything. The Democrats are starting to make a comeback and I would love to be a part of that.

In all honesty, I had already decided to move but this last election just made it definite. I am looking at some apartments just across the river and some are fairly reasonable so we will see where I end up.

Since the election is over, the focus of this blog will be about my life in general. It’s not too exciting but I work at a neurology office and I believe I could entertain you with a few stories. My sister is even considering writing a book about it. She was always the true writer of the family.

Anyways, I am off to go look at some things.
